Trying Out

Noah ran up to the football team in a practice uniform with a helmet in his hand.

"You guys have room for one more" he said smiling.

Ralph spun around to see Noah.."Hey man, glad to see you made it. Cmon, we're gettin ready to do some warm ups!"

"Alright man, what position am I gonna play" he said slipping on his helmet and letting his mouth guard dangle.

"Dunno man, you instantly got rights as our new kicker, but ya gotta try out for everything else...What ya wanna play offense or defense?"

"Offense for sure, I'm not so good and tackling people" he laughed and did a hard kick to the air to strech his kicking leg.

"I'm pretty fast though"

"Hmmm, can ya catch at all?" Ralph and the team bean examining him, another player spoke up..."Bet ya aint faster then me!"

Light walked up to the feild. "Any room for me?"

"Ya wanna race then" he laughed and threw the ball from hand to hand.

"Oh and I'm not sure never used my hands to catch a ball before"

Ralph turned his head to the newcomer, "Eh, it depends on what you can do."

The other player laughed..."Man, I'm the teams fastest player, ya aint got shit on me!" He began to stretch his legs..."bring it"

Noah stretched his legs.

"You obviously don't go to many track meets, or look at school records"

From the fifty to the goal line there and back, first one back wins" he said pointing to the lines

"I can catch, thats for sure, im pretty fast to, not as fast as him" points to the other player, "but pretty fast."

Ralph examined him..."Ya, but can ya top our receivers?"

The other player cracked his neck and then got ready to run..."I know bout you, ya your fast, but ya aint faster then me!"

"Well lets go"

"I don't know where you wanna put me you decide" he said jogging to the line to race the other player

Ralph watched the race with interest, he whispered to another player, "If he wins, Guess he can help Chris out with running back."

"Start us off Ralph" he said getting in his normal sprint position.

"Alright, you two ready?"

The player nodded and yelled "Hell yeah!"

"Alright, 3, 2, 1, GO!"

The player sprinted off the line.

Noah started off to what seemed to be a sprint getting neck and neck with the player, he suddenly got lower and sped up going past the player.

The player tried as hard as he could, but was left behind by Noah..."Not bad, not bad at all..." Ralph chuckled to himself, while the rest of the team shared there disses against the loser.

"Your good man, but I have spent my whole life practicing." he said as he passed the agreed finish line not even out of breath

"So let's ge this on the road, I guess I'm running back" he said clapping his hands together.

"But can you catch? Ralph, in Mr. L's class, when i said i could recieve that soccer ball, i meant it, i played varsity soccer last yer, goalie, I only let four goals happen to our team."

"He is tellin the truth, I was on the same team" he said spinning the ball on his finger.

"But I think it was more like 2 goals, remember, during state finals, you only let two that was it the whole season" he said as he dropped the ball to his feet and kicked it sending the ball between the goal posts while he was standing at the 50 yard line.

(punting is easier to kick farther so this isn't that unheard of)

Mr. L jogged towards the team in a polo shirt and casual pants carrying a clipboard of plays and a whistle around his neck.

"I will be your coach from now on, the old one got.....relieved. I see you started without me Ralph" he smiled and looked at the two new members.

"Seems we have new recruits"

"Hell yeah!" Ralph chuckled, "Yeah, we got a new running back, and this other kid says he can play...Noah is vouchin for him, so he's got my respect, but I dunno bout the rest of the guys."

"Mr. L, damn straight" he laughed

"Ok lets get started with practice, ya silly bastards." he said as he wrote down the new positions on his clipboard and put out his cigarette.

"Run a flea flicker guys"

"you got it coach" he said as he tossed the ball to the center and lined up behind the quaterback

"You heard the man guys, get on the line offense!" Ralph said rallying the team together, the offense lined up and prepared for there practice.

Noah looked around and popped in his mouth guard.

The Quaterback tossed the ball to Noah, he then looked for an open man and saw no one was open, he tucked the ball and sprinted forward dodging some of the defense players.

Ralph eyed Noah, knowing he was a dangerous man with the ball, he followed him making sure not to give him too much room, Ralph ran towards Noah, nailing him from the side, making sure not to hit him to hard. "Almost made it..." He chuckled as he helped him back to his feet.

Noah hit the ground hard, he wasn't used to being hit so hard.

"Ugh, I'm fine, you caught me pretty quick, you really good" he said tossing the ball to the QB and patting Ralph on the back.

Noah got back into the formation when he saw Mr. L single to do it again.

(He said I could)

(It's cool)

"Sorry man, But in the real games, I'll be there to block your ass, So maybe ya wont get hit as much." Ralph ran back to his defense, rallying them up and readying them for the next play.

The QB tossed Noah the ball again, and no one was open again.

Damn this defense is for real

He tucked the ball again and sprinted forward and juked a few more players he saw Ralph again staring right at him he tryed to spin around the massive defense player.

Paris uninvited ranu up to the spinning Nah and trucked him to the ground.

he looked at noah

and then looked up at the coach and the other players....he knew he was about to get chewed up!

Ralph cracked his knuckles..."Hang on team...This is my fight..." Ralph stepped forward to confront this uninvited attacker, while another player helped Noah to his feet..."You okay kid?"

Ralph removed his helmet, and then popped his neck..."You got a reason for hittin one my players?"

"Noah your good...right....you gettin all rowdy for nothin" Paris said non chalantly!


"Jus wanna join the team....." Paris said with a smirk

"That aint how you join the team kid...That's how you pick a fight with the wrong guys..."

Noah pulled off his helmet and threw it at Paris and shoved him.

"What the Fuck is your problem"

Paris smacked the helmet away and mildly moved backwards from the shove....

"nothin's wrong with me...why are your so ...ruffled up.."

Ralph stood back and let Noah handle things on his own...

"Paris looked at Noah Coldly..... Yo chill out..i wasnt bein serious."

"serious, you tackled me, from the side like a pussy" he said throwing the ball down

"mann get over it..so what i got you down....if you was in game...whould you start bitchin about it?..Chill.....seriously" Paris Looked him in the eyes.not wanting to start anything serious..but gettin ready just in case Noah tried anything.

"No sidelining on my field. You want to join you go through the processes correctly. I'm gonna consult my team captains and Noah. We'll decide if you can even try out."

Paris sucked his teeth...he then walked towards the bleachers he then looked back at Ralph and smirked.

"He's got a temper..That could be useful if we could control it...But he doesn't seem like the type to listen very well..." Ralph began talking it over with the rest of the team.

Paris sat on the bleachers texting on his phone!

"i dunno Mr. L he just seems a bit enthusiastic, if he can channel that energy into becoming part of the team then he could become a valuable asset, but he seems like the type to show off, and that could bring us down, bad, id give him a chance though" sighed Chris

"We can't have him on the team, I don't wanna lose 100 yards in a game because, he has personal fouls out the ass. We can't have cheap shoting losers playing, he couldn't bring me down one on one. My vote is no" he said talking to the whole team

"We could make it hell on him." a devious smirk crossed Ed's lips. He winked at Noah.

"Damn it Mr. L, you are awesome, but at least let me go one on one, then we will"
